Back 2 School America Launches New 'Teacher Classroom Kit' Campaign – Make An Impact

Kits help ease the personal financial strain on teachers and reduce their significant out-of-pocket classroom spending on school supplies

Back 2 School America, a leading nonprofit dedicated to supporting educational equity, announces a bold holiday campaign, the Teacher Classroom Kit, which directly helps provide essential classroom supplies to teachers and students in need. School supplies are far more than a back-to-school checklist—they’re an essential, ongoing need throughout the academic year. While the focus on stocking up often peaks in August and September, the reality is that classrooms require a steady replenishment of supplies to keep up with the demands of learning.

The need becomes especially pressing after the holidays.

From pencils and paper to books and educational materials, these out-of-pocket expenses represent a significant financial burden for educators whose salaries often struggle to keep pace with inflation. These kits help ease the financial strain on teachers, empowering them to focus on their students instead of worrying about supplies.

Teacher Classroom Kit: Why It's Needed

90% of teachers report using their own funds to ensure that students have the tools needed to succeed.
Nationwide, teachers spend an average of $900 annually from their own pockets to provide students with basic supplies like notebooks, pencils, markers, and more.
56% of teachers have taken on a second job, side hustle, or summer job to offset their first job’s expenses.
Districts serving predominantly students of color receive $2,700 less per student in state and local funding compared to districts with fewer minority students. This translates to approximately $13.5 million less funding per year for a typical 5,000-student district.
The economic pressure on teachers has intensified significantly, with school supply prices surging by 23.7% over the past two years.
Over 270,000 teachers are expected to quit each year due to insufficient pay; deteriorating mental health; lack of resources and support.
